About insidetrack
Insidetrack is a Lakehead Public Schools student success initiative that gives
students information on meaningful career choices that celebrate their skills,
interests and abilities. By showing the wide range of pathways to a particular
career choice through apprenticeship, college, university, and the workplace,
students can be supported by family, teachers and community with their initiatives.
Beginning in grades 7 and 8, the career interests of students range extensively
from mechanical engineers, truck drivers, veterinarians, carpenters, broadcasters,
firefighters, professional athletes, and health care aides. The variety is reflective
of the career pathways students will eventually follow. Research supports that there
is no “one size fits all” career pathway for students. Regardless of the assumption
that university is the destination of choice for most students, the reality is, at
least half of high school graduates go directly into the workforce. As well, while
many students enroll in colleges, or seek apprenticeship training directly after high
school, considerably more do so after several years in the workforce.
Insidetrack supports the Ministry of Education’s student success initiatives to help
all students get the best education and get set for life.
